Adding tarot to your spiritual morning routine is a great way to connect with yourself, practice using your intuition, and set intentions for the day. It is easy to do, with simple 1-3 card spreads, and a deck of tarot cards is inexpensive, so don’t worry about having to make a big investment.
Tarot started back in the 15th century, and the practice still exists today, often with the same 78 cards that the original Rider Waite deck contained. Though the practice itself has transitioned quite a bit.
Here are some different ways you can use tarot cards in your spiritual morning routine.
Meditate or Set Your Intentions
The first thing you can add to your morning tarot routine is the meditation, which should be before you begin to read your cards. This allows you to set intentions and talk to the spirits and angels to ask for their guidance. Be specific about what you want to pull tarot cards for, whether it is one card you need for your day, or a quick morning spread.
Prior to meditating or using your tarot cards, light either a candle or a smudge stick. Smudge sticks like sage and palo santo allow you to cleanse the space, your current energy, and the energy of the cards. Light the sage stick, then smudge the area by floating it around your desk or table and over the cards, while repeating your intention out loud.
You can then spend a few minutes meditating over the cards before you begin to use them.
Shuffle While You Set Intentions
You can also further meditate and set your intentions when you are shuffling the cards. Think about what you want for that tarot reading, so if it is something specific like pulling 3 tarot cards about your next relationship, you should be thinking about that and telling spirits you want to know who you will be in a relationship with next.
Continue speaking your intentions out loud as you shuffle the cards, picturing in your mind that you will pull the exact cards that the spirits need you to see first.
Pull a Single Card for the Day
The first way to do a morning tarot reading is to pull just one card for the day, with the intention of intuitively reading the card and letting it guide you through your day. So, if you pull the lovers card, maybe you are meant to pay close attention to your relationships or friendships that day. If you pull the temperance card, you might need to focus more on balance in your routine.
Every tarot card in the major and minor arcana comes with a variety of meanings. That combined with the imagery can alter how you read it from one day to the next.
Do a Simple Morning Tarot Spread
You can do any type of tarot spread you want in the morning, so don’t feel like it has to have some sort of meaning during your morning routine. But you do want to set your intentions for the spread, and think about what you need that day.
For example, a good morning tarot spread is one where you find out what you need to know for the day. So you can do a 3-card spread where on the left side you ask spirits what you need to know, the middle can be how you are going to feel, and the right can be what you don’t want to miss.
If you can’t remember which is which, there is no reason you can’t write down your intentions on sticky notes for each position of the spread.
You are also able to find many amazing tarot card spreads on Pinterest, and even tarot boards where you place the cards on the board in the position it directs you towards.
